Both short and long zig-zag reeds are made as an uneven sequence of box combs. These box combs can appear in all kind of variations. The top of the pins can have two shapes:
Typical length of one box comb is 100 mm (pin to pin). Longer box combs of 11 inch exist for very long reeds to reduce the number of joints. These box combs can be used when the number of sections exceeds 39 pieces.
The number of pins per box comb ranges from as low as 10 dents up to 50 dents. Below a drawing of the standard type.

Combs locked into the base mechanism
Next to the standard type as above, GTP provides different systems to interlock the different section to ensure a reliable opening of the comb and consistent density. The first system is using a kind of pin to insert into the base pantograph

Combs interlocked into each other
Other option is to attach the different section to each other. This can be at the bottom or at the bottom and the top (in case of a closed comb at the top).

On customer request, the dents can vary from length to make counting easier. Also soldered block in the box comb can be provided.
