The sub-units have a length of 100 mm and are oriented zig-zag. The minimal contraction is 60mm, although up to 55 mm is possible. For the maximal expansion, 95 mm is reachable, but respecting a maximum of 92 mm is more gentle for the comb.
Like any reed, there is a difference between total and useful length. Advanced construction allows nowadays to manufacturing combs where the difference between total length and useful length is limited to 10 cm minimal. More is possible on request.
